Insult to women

The folks in DPR again think that women are weak and stupid. So they need to be protected and given special treatment all the time. This one is on the draft law regarding political party. It says, party can be formed only if it has at least 30% female membership in its central organization.

Are you against affirmative action in general, Pak? Or just against affirmative action for women?

Just curious.

In general, Fik.

Even when certain parts of society have been marginalized for hundreds of years, causing them to be extremely left behind, for example the Australian aborigines, the New Zealand Maoris, the Eastern European Gypsies, and the native Americans? The average life expectancy of a Maori man is roughly half of a white New Zealand man. The education level differential, even worse. The economic gap, don't ask. Don't these people kinda need extra help, at least for now?

I'm a firm supporter of meritocracy, and I believe that affirmative action taints it and causes inefficiencies in employment and employee quality, but this is clearly a case where the market has failed and the government needs to step in to level the playing fields, right?

Oh, but FYI, I'm against quotas for women as well. I believe that women are already pretty much equal to men in terms of social status and access to education and jobs, or at least they're way more equal than the indigenous-invader(pardon the term) gap.

By the way, Pak, a classmate said that you were looking for me the other day?

Fik they sure need help. I just don't trust the government can do better than you, me, others. If you want to help people, go ahead. Don't wait for the government. We don't need policy set up by government to do good deeds.

Yes, I asked Ronald if you happened to take my class. Wanted to tell you I really liked your blog :-)

Thanks for the compliment, Pak =). But it's all a team effort, really. Besides, we had a great blog to imitate in the first place, so it's in part thanks to you and the cafesalemba team. =)
